ANDREI GANEA (violin, viola, conductor)

 


Andrei Ganea grew up in the city of Bucharest, where he was born in 1973. After finishing his studies at the George Enescu Conservatory, he attended the University of Southern California and the Mozarteum University in Salzburg where he trained as a conductor, violinist and violist.

Since his highly successful European conducting debut in Salzburg in 1998, Mr. Ganea's conducting appointments have included Music Director of the Salzburg Chamber Orchestra, Music Director of the Ensemble Mozarteum, Guest Conductor of the Salzburg University Orchestra, Guest Conductor of the Crown City Chamber Players, Principal Guest Conductor of the Pasadena Youth Chamber Orchestra and Associate Conductor of the Pasadena Young Musicians Orchestra.

Andrei Ganea is also an accomplished violinist and violist, having appeared as recitalist, chamber musician and concertmaster, in numerous performances throughout the United States, South America, Europe and the Far East.

Dedicated to the promotion of new music, he has participated in several performances with the OENM – Österreichishes Ensemble für Neue Musik in Salzburg (the Austrian Ensemble for Contemporary Music) and the Stadler Quartet in Germany. He continues to be involved in performing the music of twentieth and twenty-first century composers as both conductor and instrumentalist.

Mr. Ganea has conducted in master classes for such distinguished conductors as Daniel Lewis, John Farrer, Michael Morgan and Donald Thulean. He has shared the stage with world renowned artists such as Maxim Vengerov, Eugene Fodor, Yo-Yo Ma, Murray Perahia, Zubin Mehta, Eije Oue and Jeffery Tate.

Mr. Ganea currently resides in Los Angeles.
